A Moment Spent On Black Metal!

Venom, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost - First black Metal bands really, made the outlines for more extreme brands of black metal.

Norway really define black metal music in the 90's with Mayhem, Darkthrone, Burzum, Immortal and Gorgoth!

Mayhem's front man "Dead" Or Per Yngve Ohlin with his depression and what some would think of as WALKING CORPSE SYNDROME - Really made Black metal into what it is and always has been. The scent of death, burying his stage clothes until they had had a decay scent, The corpse paint.. All of it influenced what became black metal today.

Some say it was his suicide that shifted more attention to black metal as a whole, but I do believe it was his life that really swayed things.

I wont get into the whole Burzum - Mayhem things with the murder of Euronymous. I do not think it honestly played a roll in the music scene itself. It was a tragic thing that happened, front man to Burzum Vikernes stated on his youtube channel that he had "Moved On" from his one man band, Burzum which after so many years was really tragic to the die hard fans from Norway! He released 13 albums in total.

After the second wave.. You had a migration of people who thought one should stay to the roots of the sound the low fidelity, one man band drums, bass and guitar with screeching vocals, and others.. Moved on to add a more progressive sound, You've got offshoots like with any music these days things like.

Black-Doom, Ambient Black Metal, Depressive Suicidal Black Metal, Melodic Black Death.. and the list goes on and on! Its a very united core of fans that buy and listen to this kind of music. It has no place in mainstream and I think that's why I like it the best!
